The danger with HIV is that people will not be able to tell if they have it unless they begin to show signs of AIDS which is the aftereffects of HIV. Here are some things that you can do to help prevent HIV and AIDS altogether.

Maintain monogamy or have at the very least one partner at all times since that is the honest thing to do with your life. Refrain from having sexual intercourse with random people especially having sexual intercourse without protection.

Practice safe sex. Learn the methods of having sexual intercourse with protection. The very most important thing you can do is to protect yourself from acquiring the disease. Condoms have been proven to be the most effective.

Since HIV and AIDS can be acquired through contact of fluids from the body like blood and sperm, always be cautious when handling needles and blood contact with other people. Wash your hands after you handle them. Be extra careful in handling needles being used by other people.

If you are an HIV positive mother bearing a child, have yourself checked up with a doctor and see what methods you can use to protect your baby from acquiring the virus. Medications like antiretroviral medications are most likely to be prescribed to prevent the transfer of the virus from mother to baby.

Clean up after yourself. If you have just cut yourself and resulted to an open wound. Make sure that it is not exposed to these circumstances. You may not be able to notice it but your wound can easily be infected with the virus. Do regular handwashing.

Screen yourself once in a while. There is nothing more serious than having acquired the disease without knowing it and still go out and spread it even more. The result of the screening test should not be feared rather it should be understood and met with maturity.
